Professor Kwok Yip Szeto obtained his PhD degree (1985) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He joined the Physics Department of HKUST in 1991.

Professor Szeto's main research interests include the following topics:

(I)                Evolution of complex systems: complex games and artificial life, soap froth, genetic algorithm, growth phenomenon, and econophysics;

(II)             Networks: topological analysis, random walk, reliability and stability analysis, sequences and graphs

(III)           Geometric analysis of structures: quasicrystal, amorphous and frustrated structures;

(IV)           Statistical Mechanics of Spin Systems XY model, frustration mediated superconductivity, and spin relaxation,

Awards:

·         Fellow of Asian Pacific Center of Theoretical Physics since 1998;

·         Visitor at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Princeton, New Jersey, USA,

·         Visitor at the Isaac Newton Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge, England.
